Historically, if you were to look at my life, July has never been good to me.  July is generally when I have moved, made career changes, and yet again failed to win the World Series of Poker.  (Disclosure – I have yet to pony up the $10K to play in the Main Event, but every year I wish I would have.)

2007  does not seem to be any different than any other year.  Oh sure, the end of the month has potential, but I’m not going to bank on it just yet.  Maybe.  Kinda.  Trying not to.  We’ll see.

This is when sports is supposed to pick you up.

What do I get for mid-summer night’s dream blues? What helps me through my sports ennui?

Laughing at some dude with a Westside area code who keeps posting that he’ll pay top dollar for ESPY tickets.   Which will be filmed today at the Kodak.  But will be aired on Sunday against Entourage, so I am sure I will not watch it.

Speaking of the WSOP, what the fuck is going on with Toby? He looked better as “Fat Spidey”  than he does as “OMG I’m still in this and Phil Ivey has already busted out”.

I know it’s a couple of days late, but congratulations to the Harvard’s Mens 8 for winning the Ladies Plate at the Royal Henley Regatta, who beat out Moseley’s Boat Club and the New York Athletic Club for the Elite 8 championship by a full length.

Ladies, you it to yourself to check out this photo from the awards stand.

The closest race I ever lost was to Harvard, (by .59 of a second in a Mens LWT 8,  if you must know), so I hate seeing them win, especially against my old friends at NYAC.   Stupid powerhouses with their endless supply of money and tradition of recruiting the best out of Shrewsbury, Exeter, and Choate.   Rooting for Harvard in crew is like rooting for Michigan/OSU/Notre Dame/USC in college football.   It is dirty, evil, and quite frankly, it is the supporting the oppressive power that keeps the underdog down.  We like underdogs in this country.  We are all the underdogs in this country.

Now rise up! And take down Harvard come the fall rowing season!

(Why do I even attempt to write these posts at 1 am when I have to be at the gym at 6:30? They never make any sense.  Listening to Josh Rouse’s “O, I Need the Love” probably is not helping anything either.)

â™

And finally, I can stare at this clock as long as I want, but the NFL season is not coming any faster.

(Mom, if you are reading this, wait, of course you are reading this.  You called last weekend because you felt you had not seen me post in a while. Me post this has nothing to do with my sister’s birthday being today.  Or was it the tenth? I always mixed up her birthday with David Roos’s birthday.  Bad sister. Bad, bad, sister. Anyway, this has nothing to do with her so don’t call to say I shouldn’t complain about July.)

No news from TSW on Crosby’s extension with the Penguins?

    I wanted a Crosby pic!

  6. Metsy – I felt bad… especially since I had commented on Deadspin just a couple of days ago in ALL CAPS HOW EXCITED I WAS CROSBY WANTS TO SAVE MONEY FOR THE OTHER PLAYERS.

Hockey feels – and is – even further away that football now.

Is it wrong that I kinda miss the World Cup this summer? Copa Cup ain’t cutting it for me.

  7. metschick says:

TSW: I ALWAYS need you to write about your Pens. Esp. about that hottie Crosby.

What’s Tobey Maguire doing playing in the f-in’ WSOP for?! Doesn’t he know that the tournament exists solely to support the dreams of the true Poker Underdog and not some kid who has $100 million in box office backend residuals for a poorly written comic book movie franchise?! He’s just like USC! Down with Tobey!

  11. TSW's M says:

Your sister’s birthday is July 10th! TheStarterBoyfriend please put that in your Outlook.. And oh yeah… your dad’s is December 18th
