Rebellious for their time, they married just off base in Texas once my Grandfather was either 19 or 20. (I believe the story was that at the time, if you were under the age of 19 or 20, you had to have permission from a parent to marry in particular area of Texas they were in.)Â
Grandma was a nurse — who as my grandfather likes to kid, outranked him when they first met while in training— and he eventually flew B-52s during the Korean War and retired as a Lt. Colonel.
