Quick post, since everyone is off of work today/still hungover/hiding from their bookies.

This is for the Ravens, Patriots, Seahawks and Falcon fans out there. Because you’re going to need something to drink for the rest of the week for next weekend too.

Suffering Bastard

The Suffering Bastard is a classic old British Empire recipes with many variations. You can use ginger beer for ginger ale (like you would for a traditional Dark and Stormy), Rose’s lime juice for fresh lime, and can be served with or without bitters. Some people prefer to make the cocktail with bourbon, although the earliest recipes for the Suffering Bastard called for brandy. Both ways are excellent. Always made with gin.

These went over very well at the end of the Pats-Jets game yesterday with our guests, but that could have been because we were already through more craft beer than you could shake Portland hipster at.  Well, except for me. I was having IC Light, which prompted the following:

Jeremy, incredulous, “Why are you having an IC Light? There isn’t a Pittsburgh team playing.”

Me, waving the bottle dangerously close to TV, “Because IC Light could effect this game too.”

And then the Jets won.

In a cocktail glass mix with ice,

1 1/2 ounces of gin
1/2 ounce bourbon or brandy
3-4 ounces of ginger beer or ginger ale
Juice from half of a lime or 1/2 ounce Rose’s Lime Juice
1 dash bitters (Optional. By the second or third round I usually forget to add them in.)
Mint for garnish

Give it a good stir or a quick “up and down” single shake before serving.

Much better than crying in your beer.

From Falcons fans everywhere….. bless you! I needed this in the form of a morphine drip Sunday. Just damn that was a brutal crapfest.

Congrats to your Steelers tho! My Dad was a Steelers fan in addition to being a Dirty Bird, so GATA STEELERS (Go Hines Ward!)!!!

*for those non-UGA fans, GATA means: Get After Their Asses

    Cheers y’all!

Also, considering the heinous state of UGA’s football program at the moment, this cocktail will be my feature libation on next season’s tailgate menu…and until Georgia grows a pair & fires that moron Mark Richt.

Ha! But isn’t Georgia looking at one of the best recruiting classes this year?

      • Ally Garner says:

Well, Mark Richt likes to call it the “Dream Team” however we just missed out on 3 of those big Dream Teamers to Bama (no surprise there). There are still a few big Georgia recruits left on the board & will announce on signing day, but i highly doubt we’ll coral the ones Disney Dawg fans think we will.

Also, it’s worth noting we’ve had top 10 (even 4 top 5) recruiting classes the last decade with precious little to show for it once Saban & Urban entered the league. Matt Stafford, Knowshon Moreno, AJ Green, etc. etc. and not a single division title to show for it.

I’m hoping this time next season we’ll focus on recruiting top Coaching talent….
