Today in The Music of New Coke, Kenny Loggins’ “Vox Humana” which peaked on at #29 on Billboard’s Hot 100 during the Great Soda Change of ‘85.

“Vox Humana” differs from Loggins’ better known work on the FOOTLOOSE (1984) and TOP GUN (1986) soundtracks by taking most of its sound from keyboards and drum samples with jazz hooks and featuring less of his guitar work, which in the narrow confines of ’80s pop, could almost be considered rock(ish).  Because of this departure, “Vox Humana” is generally considered one of his weakest releases.

Sounds like the curse of New Coke to me.
