The Dodgers announced this week that they will be playing an exhibition game against Red Sox next Spring at the Coliseum as part of their “move to Los Angeles” 50 year anniversary celebration. (No word on matching protests in Brooklyn.) The Coliseum was legendary for its shallow left field – 250 feet from home plate – and the giant screen that marked where they outfield ended.
Interestingly enough, the USC Trojans are doing some saber-rattling over leaving the Coliseum in favor of the Rose Bowl in Pasadena after disagreeing with the City over building improvements and lease terms. (Ed. Note – Why some sad sacks think that building can still be improved enough to be a modern NFL facility is beyond me.) This of course leading up the big game this week against UCLA at – you guess it – the Rose Bowl. With a win, USC can clinch a spot in… wait for it… the Rose Bowl.
We need some Booty to show us where to go.
(Speaking of Bowl games, UConn accepted an invitation to the Meineke Bowl, where they will face off against either GordonShumway’s Wake Forest Deacs or Maryland.)
LeBron James scored 38 points in the OT win over the Celtics, handing Boston only their second loss of the season. Drew Gooden tacked on 24 of his own and Zydrunas Ilgauskas went for 14 points and 15 rebounds, giving the Cavs top threesome a 77-64 edge over the seemingly unstoppable Garnett, Allen, and Pierce.
And finally, Ricky Williams is out for the season after his one game back with the Dolphins with a chest muscle tear. Say what you will about Williams, but I’ve always felt a little sad for Ricky. The man struggles with depression and crippling shyness and openly admits it – hell was the former spokesperson for Paxil – and yet continues to come back for more physical and mental punishment just to play a game. The Dolphins were idiots rushing him into play just days after he was re-instated by the NFL, especially in a field as wet and dangerous as Heinz Field was on Monday.
Namaste, Ricky.
And Duke totally crushed Wisconsin. Woo!
You ladies ever read Bill Simmons on espn.com? I never knew Jacoby Ellsbury was so highly-regarded by the girls, but Simmons just mentioned it on-line and I tracked my way back here. Don’t be surprised by an increase in traffic.
Very nice site, by the way!
DC – No surprise to us. He’s been the #1 search term that brings people to Ladies… for some time now. There’s a little subculture of “Little Ladies” – as I refer to them – that keeps his Hump Day Hottie post alive.
Yeah, if you google “Jacoby+Ellsbury+cute” you guys come up #2. You need to do something about jossip.com, though.
Are you the proprietor of this little corner of cyber-space? I have to admit, it’s a lot better informed on the sports stuff than I would have guessed.
I have a great mental picture of TSW tipping her 10-gallon cowboy hat to the “little ladies.” Heeeeeee.
It feels better than calling them “little sisters”.
At least the neighborhood around the Colliseum is bad enough that those “friendly Dodger fans” who have stabbed people in the Dodger Stadium parking lot in the past, stand as good a chance getting mugged and stabbed themselves on their way to the car.
Isn’t the UCLA-USC game at the Coliseum this weekend? It’s a home game for USC I know. Or did I misinterpret what you were saying?
That probably should have read “I know it’s a home game for USC.” Idiot I am. Grammar no good,
Doug – Yes, they are the “home” game this week. But part of the deal to move USC to the Rose Bowl will be if UCLA approves it.
This weekend though?
Well, I think USC’s deal with the Coliseum ends on Dec 2.
I believe USC and UCLA just switch off who is the “home” team each each at the Rose Bowl, even though UCLA plays there all season.
The game moves back and forth between the stadiums currently.
I emailed that article to my sister (a current student) and she sent along this email they received this afternoon from the AD:
Apparently it’d only be temporary if at all.
