I used up all my energy earlier with Scientists Claim NFL Did Not Take Into Account Earth’s Wobble in Realignment, so this post is nothing but the recipe!

Less than 24 hours from kickoff! I know this is as a Steelers loving writer, this is where I’m supposed to link to “Renegade” to get fired up, but to be honest, this gets me much much more excited for football than Styx.

But if you would like “Renegade” or a very complete breakdown of the game, head over to Three Rivers Blog or DC Steeler Nation. The latter doesn’t actually play “Renegade” but by the time you finish reading Mike’s post, you’ll be hearing it in your head as you steel yourself to kickoff.

Hot Olive Bites

Don’t be fooled by their simple ingredients. The small amount of cayenne pepper in these makes these cheesy olive bites a hot, salty addictive snack. They can also be made ahead of time and baked day of or completely finished a day ahead of time.

You will need…

6-7 tablespoons butter, room temperature
1 1/2 shredded sharp cheddar cheese
2/3 cup flour
1 small bunch of fresh parsley, stems removed and finely chopped
1 teaspoon onion powder (You can substitute garlic powder)
1/4-1/2 teaspoon cayenne
20-24 small pimento stuffed green olives

Preheat oven to 400º.

Drain olives and cut each olive in half then set aside.

Using a spatula, cream together the softened butter and cheese.

Add flour and spices.

Then combine well with a pastry blender or by cutting across the dough with two knives.

It won’t look like a lot of dough, but out of the small ball of delicious you’ll get 40-48 teaspoon sized portions. Form into little balls and top with an olive half.

Bake for 15-20 minutes, until the edges start to brown.

That’s it. Last time I made these on game day they were gone in 15 minutes.*

Here we go, Steelers!

*I probably ate half of  them.
